Show - The Fantasticks
A word of advice to all parents: forbid your children to do what you want them to do; you can be sure they will do it! This is not manipulation but education. And remember: it is for their own good. This original method has been successfully tried and tested by Mrs Hucklebee and Mr Bellomy. To encourage their children to get together, they staged a fake argument, built a wall between their two houses and forbade them from communicating with each other. The result: love blossomed immediately. Be careful not to reveal the truth, however, as nothing is more boring for children than a predetermined destiny.
Loosely based on a play by Edmond Rostand, the musical The Fantasticks holds the record for longevity, having been performed for nearly forty-two years at the same New York theatre. Its incredible story, halfway between Romeo and Juliet and Così fan tutte, and its hit songs such as ‘Try to Remember’, which has become a standard in the American repertoire (and an advertising hit), have made it a flagship work of Off-Broadway. It is performed in French by the artists of the Opera Studio in a playful show by Myriam Marzouki, which was acclaimed two seasons ago by audiences of all ages.
