NUBU - France - Jazz Discovery
A mischievous encounter between instruments from different eras: the snake, the flugabone, the trombone, animal skin percussion and the double bass. It's a fantastic space of freedom for the voice, treated as a material in its own right, elastic and bouncy, nourished by scansions, yodels and cries. NUBU greedily plays with eras, explores the marriage of timbres and invents a singular folklore. Their music is as timeless as it is contemporary, a blend of jazz, Anglo-Saxon folk, songs and explosive, powerfully energising improvisations. NUBU offers the snake - with the mystical charge it suggests and its timbre that has fallen into oblivion - an unexpected place in a dazzling present.
